A clean salt
Mined in the Himalayas for over 3000 years, the pink crystal salt found there is the result of millions of years of compression under the Earth’s surface. In fact, Himalayan crystal salt deposits are roughly 250 million years old, which means that they are naturally free of modern-day pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, nitrates and other man-made chemicals, heavy metals and PCB's etc. As such, it is generally acknowledged that Himalayan salt is the “cleanest” salt available.

Why choose Himalayan crystal salt over table salt?
All salt comes from a salted body of water, i.e. an ocean or salt-water lake. Some salt makers use water or deposits from today’s oceans, while others use deposits formed by evaporation from oceans in past geological eras.
Salt deposits can occur naturally - for example, when a salt-water lake dries out - or they can be produced by man-made processes (where the salt-water is heated up to a high temperature to cause evaporation of all the liquid and the salt is then exposed to chemical drying and/or bleaching). Major salt-producing companies tend to dry their salt in huge kilns with temperatures reaching as much as 1200 degrees F, changing the salt's chemical structure. This can, in turn, adversely affect the human body.
Such man-made processes unfortunately lead to mineral and trace element depletion and this is one of the main reasons why table salt is widely considered to be inferior to natural salts like Himalayan crystal salt. It is "chemically cleaned" and reduced only to sodium and chloride. Artificial additives (such as flow agents, anti-clumping and anti-caking ingredients) are then added for commercial reasons. Some manufacturers even add aluminium! By contrast, sea salts (formed from natural evaporation methods) retain their trace elements, which most people agree also positively affects the flavour.

While sea salt and table salt contain the same levels of sodium chloride, only unprocessed sea salt contains the wide range of minerals and trace elements found naturally in saline water - common table salt has just 2 or 3 chemical elements, while seawater salt has 84 chemical elements!
